#3 - Peril At End House by Agatha Christie
Apparently, not all literature is creating equal… I’d no sooner announced to the world that I’d finished my third book of the year than my friend Tamsin questioned whether two thrillers and a murder mystery constituted “proper” reading. The fact that she’d just finished The Wolves Of Willoughby Chase didn’t exactly put her on the firmest of footing. She’s still sulking after reading that Lucy Mangan read something like 10,000 books last year (I exaggerate).
I’m using this list from the Guardian to shape my choices of which mysteries to solve and Peril… was the first of them I came across in the library (yes, I’ve started using our lauded library - it does have a few books, honest).
Can I say I was a bit disappointed? The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd, which I read a couple of years ago, was superb but I sort of guessed what was going on at End House about a third of the way through. Poirot started to grate much more quickly.
The aforementioned Tamsin also disagrees with The Guardian list. Once Facebook is back up and running I’ll grab her version and post it. We can compare notes later.
